It always puzzles me as to why writers are so willing to seize the latest clichéd buzzwords and ‘do them to death’.
There are many reasons to avoid them:
They make writers sound desperate and unoriginal
They are yawningly boring
They make a piece of text sound exactly like every other
They will attract accusations of ‘This was created using AI’ (whether true or not)
There are always better and more accurate alternatives
They often lead to mangled meaning or hilariously mismatched imagery.
What puzzles me even more is that many writers can’t see (or don’t check) the effect their favourite piece of corporate-speak has on readers.
Take a ‘deep-dive’ at your peril
My target today is ‘deep dive’ and all its variations.
